Legality
Portugal D2 is a 2-year Residence Permit that provides an opportunity to non-EU/EEA/Swiss Business Owners, Senior Managers, Entrepreneurs, or High net-worth individuals to establish new business or buy an existing one (or become a partner in it). The program does not have a set minimum investment criteria, however, the applicant must prove that they have sufficient funds required to start and maintain the business.
One of the key contributors making this a most attractive visa category is that the Entrepreneurs can initiate their business in any industry type and are not required to obtain approval from Portuguese business incubators.
The legal basis for this ‘D’ type visa can be found in article 60(2) of Law No. 23/2007 from July 4.
Investment Options
The program does not have a set minimum investment criteria, however, the applicant must prove that they have the funds required to start and maintain the business as they have stated in their business plan. In addition to this, you must prove that you have made the arrangements for your stay (purchase or lease of property “minimum one year lease”) and have valid health insurance.

INITIAL DUE DILIGENCE
We collect basic documents and perform initial Due Diligence check to eliminate the risk of failure. In case if we find any risk involved that causes application rejection, we offer a suitable alternative or decline to proceed further with your consent.
COLLECTION OF DOCUMENTS
You sign the retainer, and our Investment Migration Advisors will assist you on selecting the property for buying or renting and this can be done via POA "Power of Attorney", understanding your existing business and assisting you prepare your detailed business plan for Portugal, obtaining the document(s) required as per concerned authority, dedicated staff will be assigned throughout the application process.
APPLICATION SUBMISSION
Complete application forms, business plan, and legalized documents are submitted with the concern Government agency responsible for migration.
GOVERNMENT DECISSION
Upon clarence of the Due Diligence, the Government approves the application, and your visa will be pasted onto your passport
ISSUANCE OF RESIDENCE CARD
Initially you will be granted a four month’s visa that allows you to visit Portugal, apply for residence permit, and submit your biometrics. First permit will be valid for 2 years and renewable for additional 3 years afterwards.

CAN THIS RESIDENCE PERMIT BE CONVERTED TO CITIZENSHIP?
Yes, upon completion of 5 years on D2 residence permit you may apply for a Permanent Residence or Citizenship of Portugal, provided you have completed the residency requirement, learnt A2 level of Portuguese language, and have no criminal records. IS THERE ANY CONDITION TO GET D2 RESIDENCE PERMIT RENEWAL?
In addition to prove that you have established a business, bought, or partnered in already existing Portuguese business you and any of your family members that are part of application must have over 6 months of physical stay in Portugal.
DO I NEED TO PAY TAX?
Yes, one of the mandatory requirements of D2 visa for Portugal is to reside in Portugal and spent over 183 days a year, so your income (i.e., income on your business, salary, or property rental) generated in Portugal will be taxed.
